The Midnight Hour
That night, as the rest of the family slept, Jay sat at their rickety dining table, the glow of his secondhand laptop illuminating his face. The proposal deadline was two days away, and the competition required not just an idea but a working prototype.
Every keystroke felt like a rebellion against the odds stacked against him. Jay’s mind raced with ideas, his fingers flying across the keyboard. He couldn’t fail, not now, not when his family’s future might depend on this.
As the clock struck 3 a.M., Jay leaned back, exhausted but exhilarated. He wasn’t finished, but he had a plan. And for the first time in a long time, he felt something he hadn’t in years: hope.
A Shocking Twist
As he finally shut his laptop and prepared for a few hours of sleep, a loud knock echoed through the house. Jay’s heart sank. It was too late for visitors.
Emily stirred awake, peering out from her room. 'Jay, who is it?'
'I don’t know,' he said, his voice low.
The knocks grew louder, more insistent. Jay opened the door cautiously. Standing there was Mr. Bassey, the landlord, with two unfamiliar men in tow.
'You’ve got until sunrise to pay at least half,' Bassey said, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.
'Or I’m locking this place up.'
Jay’s breath caught in his throat. Sunrise? That was less than three hours away.
Day 3 ended with the Godwins teetering on the edge of despair. With their home at stake and Jay juggling impossible odds, what sacrifices will he have to make? Stay tuned for Day 4😊.
