The NOUN admission process is straightforward and designed to ensure only qualified candidates are admitted. Applicants should ensure all required verification documents are submitted correctly and on time during clearance or screening exercise.

The verification documents include:

UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTS
  • Birth Certificate/Declaration of Age
  • Original and photocopies of relevant academic certificates and transcripts including O-Level Certificate(s).
  • ND/NCE/HND/First Degree Certificates
  • Two recent passport photographs.
  • NYSC discharge or exemption certificate for Nigerian graduates (photocopy).
  • Evidence of any professional qualification/certification.
    • CHO/CHEW Certificate (for Public Health Programme)
    • Registered Nurse License (for Nursing Programme)
    • Registered Midwifery/Medical Laboratory License (for Environmental Health Programme)

To obtain admission to study postgraduate programmes in the Faculty of Social Science, applicants are required to possess the requirements (Mathematics and English inclusive) stated by each programme. In addition, applicants with a pass in Mathematics in O'level certificates (WAEC/WASSC) obtained before 2016 will be considered for admission for all postgraduate programmes in the faculty except Economics. While a credit pass in Mathematics in O' Level certificate obtained from 2016 till date is compulsory.

Once submitted, applicants should expect to receive an admission decision via email within a day to 2 weeks. Successful candidates will receive instructions on completing registration, which involves paying the requisite fees. New students are encouraged to attend orientation programmes held at the beginning of each semester to familiarise themselves with university policies, resources and support services available.

Candidates should ensure they meet all admission requirements before submitting their applications. Failure to do so may result in delays or rejection. Applicants are advised to consult with an admission advisor if they have any questions regarding their eligibility or the application process.

Admission Requirements

For undergraduate admission, applicants must possess:

  • A minimum of five credits at O'level including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings.
  • Additional requirements might apply for some programmes and these can be viewed after selecting the Programme and entry level at the Eligibility Criteria Section below.

Postgraduate admission requirements include:

  • A minimum of 5 credits at O'levels including English and Math at not more than 2 sittings.
  • An applicant for postgraduate admission into NOUN is normally expected to have a minimum of a first degree ( second class lower) for masters or HND for PGD in a related field.
  • NYSC discharge or exemption certificate (for Nigerian graduates).
  • Two academic references and a statement of purpose.

General Requirements for PhD admission:

  • Candidates must possess a good Master’s degree in a relevant discipline from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) or any university recognised by the Senate of NOUN, with a CGPA not below 4.00 on a 5.00 scale. Some Departments may seek higher CGPA, while all Ph.D. candidates will be subjected to oral/written interviews.
  • Also, candidates with a CGPA not below 3.50 on a 5.00 scale can apply for PhD/MPhil admission. They must possess a good Master's degree in a relevant discipline from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) or any university recognised by the Senate of NOUN. Candidates will be subjected to oral/written interviews.
  • Candidates applying for PhD Law must possess Master of Laws (LLM) degree or MPhil from an approved university with a weighted average which shall not be less than 60% or a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5.00-point scale. Candidates will be subjected to oral/written interviews.

NOUN Admission Forms: Where and How to Obtain

To obtain NOUN (National Open University of Nigeria) admission forms, you can follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official website of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) at admissions.nouonline.net
  2. On the Home Page, go to the Menu Bar, Click on Apply for Admission.
  3. Select either Undergraduate Programme/Postgraduate Programme/PhD Programme/CEMBA CEMPA Programme/ACETEL Programmes.
  4. Goto “Choose Faculty” (note it can be found at the left hand side of the screen).
  5. Select Faculty.
  6. Fill displayed form.
  7. Click below to view admission criteria.
  8. Click “Apply” to proceed.
  9. Take note of the UNIQUE ID displayed
  10. Click ‘Continue’ button
  11. Select Bank Branch as payment type
  12. Click “Pay”
  13. Pay the required application fee as specified by NOUN. Remita charges apply.
    • Undergraduate Programmes N5, 000.00 (five thousand naira only)
    • Postgraduate (PGD and Masters) Programmes N7, 500.00 (Seven thousand five hundred naira only).
    • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Programmes N10,000.00 (Ten Thousand Naira only).
  14. Copy and take your RRR number to any bank branch for payment or finish your online payment yourself via remita.
  15. After payment perform step 1 to 3
  16. Goto “Continue After Payment”
  17. Input Unique ID, RRR number and Programme
  18. Click “Proceed”
  19. Fill the onlie form.
    Note: Ensure to fill all fields marked with red star they are compulsory.
  20. After filling form Click “Submit”
  21. Print Admission Letter
  22. Visit the nearest study centre for screening.
