The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has appointed Dr Al’Hassan Ali Ibrahim as the new Director of the Dutse Study Centre in Jigawa State.
Dr Ibrahim formally assumed office following a recent staff redeployment approved by the university’s management.
Before his new assignment, he had overseen the Dawakin Kudu, Gabasawa and Kwachiri Community Study Centres in Kano State.
He succeeds Dr Ahmad Mahmood Tanimu, who has now been redeployed to serve as Director of the Dawakin Kudu Community Study Centre.
Speaking following the handover in Dutse, Dr Ibrahim expressed appreciation to NOUN management for entrusting him with responsibility for the centre.
He pledged to work towards advancing the university’s objectives under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma.
One of the major priorities identified by the new Director is increasing awareness of NOUN and expanding student enrolment.
Dr Ibrahim believes that greater public enlightenment about the university’s programmes, learning system and opportunities available through Open and Distance Learning could encourage more prospective students to consider NOUN.
The National Open University of Nigeria operates a flexible learning system that allows students in different parts of the country to pursue university education without depending entirely on the conventional residential university model.
Study centres such as Dutse play an important role in supporting students by providing administrative assistance and access to several university services.
Dr Ibrahim therefore called on members of staff at the Dutse Study Centre to cooperate with the new leadership and work collectively towards improving the centre.
He also stressed the importance of commitment and dedication to duty, noting that staff members have a shared responsibility to contribute to the overall growth of the university.
The new Director indicated that his administration would build on the achievements already recorded by the centre rather than starting from scratch.
He also acknowledged the experience of his predecessor and expressed willingness to seek guidance where necessary.
Outgoing Director Dr Tanimu thanked the university’s management for giving him the opportunity to serve in Dutse and for assigning him a new leadership responsibility at Dawakin Kudu.
He encouraged staff members remaining at Dutse to support Dr Ibrahim and work with him towards the continued development of the study centre.
For students of the Dutse Study Centre, the development represents an administrative leadership change and is not expected to affect ongoing academic activities.
