Noun Dean, Prof. Omachonu, Elected National President Of Linguistic Association Of Nigeria

The Dean, Faculty of Arts, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Gideon Sunday Omachonu, has been elected the National President of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (LAN).

The election took place during the 36th Conference of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (CLAN) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, on Thursday, October 23, 2025, where he emerged as the associations new leader.

Prof. Omachonu described the position as both a privilege and a call to further service, emphasising his commitment to advancing linguistic scholarship, promoting national language development, and influencing educational policy across Nigeria.

He pledged to uphold the values of scholarship, professionalism, and institutional excellence, as he promised to represent NOUN with distinction at the national level.

The newly-elected LAN president also thanked NOUNs leadership for its support and encouragement, noting that their backing played a major role in his achievement.

With his election, the university community stands to gain from the increased visibility and influence his new position will bring.
