The Director, Enugu Study Centre, Prof. Charity Akuadi Okonkwo, has said that examination is an assessment process aimed at testing the extent to which a learner may have achieved the set objectives.

Okonkwo, who was represented by the Centre's Principal Assistant Registrar (PAR), Mr. Matthew Egede, made this remark during the students' forum organised by the centre to brief students on the forth coming 2024-2 pen-on-paper (PoP) examinations scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 26th November, 2024 and other related academic issues at the centre.

She said examinations provide an apple opportunity to students to demonstrate their skills, knowledge and understanding gained throughout their studies. While explaining that the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is an Open and Distance Learning ( ODL) institution known for providing functional, flexible, accessible and cost-effective education driven by technology, the director also said students are the greatest beneficiaries.

According to her, this commitment to quality education is evident in how seriously the university approaches examinations, a key pillar in evaluating students progress and maintaining high academic standards. The professor of Measurement and Evaluation said the briefing served as a guide to help students prepare and understand the procedures as well as approach the exams with confidence by upholding a culture of academic excellence.

'Examination rules are stipulated at the back cover of your booklet. Please read them thoroughly and familiarise yourself with the content and implications of the rules for effective compliance.'

'Candidates must arrive at the examination hall 30 minutes before the scheduled time, ie. 7:30am for 8:00am, 10:30am for 11:00am and 1:30pm for 2:00pm sessions respectively,' Okonkwo said.

She noted the need for punctuality and promptness, adding that students should desist from acts capable of tarnishing the image of the university as well as truncating their dreams of becoming graduates. Staff who spoke during the forum included Mrs. Faustina Chikeleze, Mrs. Ofor-Nwachukwu Ngozi, Mrs. Oluyemisi Kareem, and Mr. Frankline Ogubuike, among others.

Students took turns to ask questions while the centre management provided corresponding answers to the admiration of the learners.
