The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe Musa, has urged the management of the National Open University of Nigeria to adopt digital technology in teaching and learning.

She said this during the 9th National Open University of Nigeria's Staff School Speech and Prize-Giving Day, held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in Kaduna.

The Deputy Governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education in the state, Dr. Halliru Musa Soba, promised to facilitate the supply of Nigerian E-Learning Passports (Tablets) to NOUN Staff School.

According to her, the e-Learning Passport and other digital information platforms deployed by the state government in the education sector have been making the desired impacts by increasing the digital knowledge of both the pupils and their teachers.

Musa said the state government has since declared a state of emergency to engage digital technology in the education sector of the state.

She disclosed that the state now uses digital tools to monitor the activities of the teachers and the pupils in various schools in the state.

The deputy governor explained that the state government had, in the last eight years, reduced to a minimal index of enrollment the gap between girl and male children.

Musa, therefore, congratulated the staff and management of NOUN Staff School for the giant stride and achievement of starting with only eight pupils in 2012 but now having more than 400 in 2023.

She encouraged the pupils to read harder and to know that education is the bedrock for human capital development. 'Without education, there would not be human capital.'

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, who is also the Special Guest of Honour, said he was impressed with the performance of the pupils and declared that the credit goes to the staff and the director Centre for Human Resource Development, Dr. Aminu Umar.

Peters, represented by his deputy, administration, Prof. Isaac Butswat, said the NOUN Staff School has a lot of potential, and activities like this are more of a talent hunt because of the displayed songs and choreography.

The VC said he was delighted with the introduction of International Languages like Arabic and French, saying that in the future, the management may consider introducing more of their kind.

He thanked the state government and appealed to them to key-in to assist the school, which will be pivotal in the development of education in Kaduna State, even as he urged the staff and the pupils to make sure that they keep it up and continue doing their best.

On the occasion, the pioneering director of the Kaduna Study Centre and the Guest Speaker, Prof. Nuhu Lawrence Garba, delivered a paper titled 'Basic Education in Era of Artificial Intelligence: A Tool for Teaching and Learning.'

Presentations of gifts and certificates to the pupils who made outstanding performances in their academic activities climaxed the ceremony.
