Life Term Inmate Bags Postgraduate Degree From Prison

Jude Onwuzulike, a life prisoner at the Awka Custodial Centre in Anambra State, has earned a postgraduate degree from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

After being declared worthy in character and learning, he was awarded with a certificate on Friday.

The convict earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Education.

In response, Onwuzulike expressed his gratitude to the Custodial Centre and NOUN for the chance, according to NOUN UPDATE News.

When I first arrived here, I had no idea such a thing existed. I believed such things were only found in developed nations. I started here with just one credential, but now I have three, and I'm ready to get another before I go.

I want my fellow detainees to view this as a stepping stone. It's time to enroll; you may do so even if you've been released. 'You'll never be sorry,' he said.

During the certificate giving, Dr Scholastica Ezeribe, Director of NOUN, Awka Study Centre, expressed her joy at the inmates' zeal for academics.

Ezeribe, represented by Dr Georgina Ogbonna, urged other detainees to take advantage of the government's free chance to improve their lot before their release.
