BNSc Students Commence First OSCE In NOUN History

The Department of Nursing Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has commenced an Objectivity Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for BNSc students, which is the first of its kind in the history of the university.

The examination, currently ongoing across some selected study centres nationwide, is being coordinated by examiners, preceptors, and desk officers of the faculty at the various study centres in the country.

Students from Bauchi, Gombe, Jalingo, Yola, and Damaturu Study Centres are holding their exercises in the specialist hospitals domiciled within the metropolitan city of their respective states.

Dr. Anita Lukong, who led the supervision and coordination team in Bauchi, Gombe and Yola states, said the average performances of the students were mostly good.

A student from Gombe Study Centre who had just finished the examination described it as simple and straightforward.

She appreciated the department of Nursing sciences for coming up with such innovation and urged the university management to maintain the pace.

OSCE is a modern type of examination often used in health sciences to assess clinical skill performance and competence in skills such as communication, clinical examination, medical and nursing procedures. Examiners use checklist for evaluation and rotation of students around a number of stations with some stations having observers.
