The Federal Government of Nigeria has opened registration for a free digital and professional skills programme targeting 32,000 Nigerians.

The programme is delivered through the Digital Training Academy, an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education under the National Skilling Project. Its official website says selected learners will receive sponsored access to online training from providers including Coursera and Pluralsight.

For NOUN students, this is an opportunity to add practical digital skills to their university education without paying course fees through the programme. Registration is available through the official Digital Training Academy portal: https://www.dta.education.gov.ng/

WHAT THE PROGRAMME OFFERS

The academy lists more than 10 skill areas, including product management, cloud computing, cybersecurity, IT automation, artificial intelligence and machine learning, agentic AI, FinTech, parallel computing, quantum computing and natural language processing.

The platform describes the training as fully sponsored. Applicants should not pay an individual or unofficial agent for a slot.

WHY THIS MATTERS TO NOUN STUDENTS

NOUN’s flexible structure allows students to combine degrees with employment, business and professional development. These online learning paths can help students build practical skills, portfolio projects and technology-based opportunities.

The programme may be useful to Computing, Sciences, Management Sciences, Public Health and other students who want skills that complement their academic discipline. The official portal does not restrict registration to a particular NOUN faculty.

WHAT APPLICANTS NEED

• A valid National Identification Number.
• An active telephone number and alternate number where required.
• Accurate personal, educational and career information.
• Completion of the online pre-assessment.

Creating an account does not guarantee admission, certification or employment. The programme terms reserve the right to verify eligibility and manage access to particular cohorts.

HOW TO APPLY

1. Visit https://www.dta.education.gov.ng/
2. Select “Apply for sponsorship”.
3. Enter your NIN and active telephone number.
4. Complete identity verification and your profile.
5. Take the pre-assessment personally.
6. Sign in later to check your result and learning instructions.

Applicants can also use the official registration page: https://www.dta.education.gov.ng/onboarding

IF YOU LACK A COMPUTER OR RELIABLE INTERNET

The academy says learning centres with internet access and devices have been established across Nigeria. The public page does not currently provide a complete centre directory, so do not travel or pay based on an unofficial address. Wait for confirmed information through your account or an official announcement.

NO VERIFIED APPLICATION DEADLINE YET

NOUN Update found no closing date on the official landing page, onboarding page or programme terms reviewed on 28 August 2026. Students should register promptly, but nobody should invent a deadline, promise first-come selection or guarantee admission.

PROTECT YOUR NIN AND OTP

Submit your NIN only through the official dta.education.gov.ng domain. Never send your NIN or OTP to a WhatsApp agent. Do not pay anyone to secure a sponsored slot. Do not reuse your NOUN portal password. Avoid unofficial forms and shortened links.

The official terms explain how applicant information may be processed for verification, administration, learning delivery and security: https://www.dta.education.gov.ng/terms

WHAT TO DO AFTER REGISTRATION

Complete the assessment personally, monitor your account and telephone, set aside weekly study time, complete practical exercises and save your work in a portfolio where permitted. The programme is most valuable when it produces demonstrable skills, not just another certificate.
